Biography - Arc II
Gailen is present when Shinae is giving birth to their child. He explains to a nervous slave that it was never his mate's choice to be in the position of protector twin--he views the assignment as like a glorified slave. Even childbirth is unquestioned as a means of a commonborn's survival in the Vel'Sharen political atmosphere.
Upon the midwife's departure, Gailen rushes to Shinae's side, only to find that the creature she birthed was a deformed mutant not unlike a demon. He orders the infant burned and attempts to explain the situation to Shinae, who is deeply disturbed at the events.
