The original wiki was set to be shut down and the wiki was largely mirrored to a Fandom-based version, though most of the reference images had not yet been copied over. This migration was put on hold when it appeared the original wiki could in fact be retained, however the old wiki was lost in its entirety when the server was among the many taken down by a massive series of cyberattacks on data centers during early February, 2023. It is now being rebuilt with the launch of Hel. Sorry if it's a little messy right now!

Val'Dutan'vir

The Dutan'vir clan symbol.

The Val'Dutan'vir were shining examples of order in the years before the onset of the Nidraa'chal uprising. They were valuable, unwavering allies of the Vel'Sharen and loyal protectors of the Val'Sharess in a day when racial differences were of little consequence. It was to the loss of nearly everyone when they fell during the uprising, the clan members slipping in among the commoners or sold into slavery and their name forever tainted unjustly by the ignorant populace.

History

The Illhar'dro's vivid district is in stark contrast with the trashed Dutan'vir lands.

Little is known about the rise of the Dutan'vir. Leading up to the 10th century they had established themselves as a second drowussu Val clan of Chel'el'sussoloth, paralleled by the rigid religious zealots of the Val'Kyorl'solenurn. Though their ascent to prominence is unrevealed their downfall was vividly illustrious.

When the Nidraa'chal appeared upon the stage of Chel'el'sussoloth they placed a great sum of resources into influencing the Val'Dutan'vir. With the passage of time more and more of the clan fell under the sway of the Nidraa'chal ideology, many tainting themselves in the process. A steadily-increasing turmoil brewed within the inner politics of the Dutan'vir over the next fifty years.

Then in 1082 the Val'Sharess launched her inquisition against the Nidraa'chal and their sympathizers. This decree struck each Dutan'vir individually: many saw it as a much-needed purge long overdue from their beloved queen, but others viewed it as the cruelest of knives in their backs. Regardless of their individual stances the inquisition struck at the heart of every Dutan'vir, nearly devolving the already disquieted clan into unrestrained bedlam. The Les’wanre house broke off en-mass to merge with the Val'Kyorl'solenurn, and many others would have followed suit if it weren't for the unifying efforts of Ill'haress Sannindi'ligr Val'Dutan'vir.

Through infiltration and guile the Nidraa'chal had ushered the Dutan'vir to the edge of destruction, and the final push came not a month later with the unexpected appearance of demonic troops within the clan's fortress. Though the tainted forces were soundly defeated they succeeded in corrupting the ancient guardian of the Ill'haress, which likewise turned on her, striking her down. The method by which such an event was carried out eluded her guards; no nether gate was found and nobody else was affected. None the less, with the death of the Ill'haress the great Val'Dutan'vir clan finally crumbled.

A large sum of warriors rallied under Storr Dutan'vir for an admirable yet blind and ultimately doomed charge into thick of the demon armies. The few remaining members of the clan dispersed. Many were assimilated into ranks of the Val'Kyorl'solenurn or the Mae'yukir house of the Val'Sarghress, but all too many lingered behind, easy pickings for opportunistic slavers.

Culture and Politics

The Val'Dutan'vir clan was an important pillar of stability within Chel'el'sussoloth. Orderly compared to most due to its drowussu majority, the Dutan'vir were significantly more moderate in their views than their rigidly conservative Val'Kyorl'solenurn contemporaries. Within their membership, drowolath/drowussu half-breeds, drowussu and tainted were tolerated among the ranks. Such liberal management none the less provided individuals within the Dutan'vir all the wiggle room they needed to clash with each other over conflicting ideologies. It was this tolerance that allowed the Nidraa'chal to influence so many of its members.

Their fall from grace changed everything. No longer viewed as a formidable clan they have since become openly mocked by the majority of Chel'el'sussoloth. The suffix “ligr,” commonly present in the given names of the clan's membership, found use as a synonym for cowardice. A minority however, their opinions untainted by the unjustifiable ignorance that others show in belittling the Dutan'vir, still hold a great respect for those few survivors who continue to persist in the shadow of their ruined glory.

Many of the political relationships the Dutan'vir held with others crumbled with the collapse of their clan. It is well known that they had very close ties with the Val'Sharen and the Val'Sharess in particular. No other clan had volunteered to staff Diva'ratrika Val'Sharen's personal guard with more fervor than they, and their people remained the majority within that station up until the clan's dissolution. The acceptance of at least some of their numbers among the Val'Kyorl'solenurn and Val'Sarghress following their fall seems to indicate inviolate relations, but eventually, these Dutan'vir journeyed back home after Mikilu'ligr's return to leadership.

Clan Fortress and Properties

Mae'yukir make the push to retake their citadel.

Once a defunct clan, the scattered Val'Dutan'vir held no property. Their previous lands lie either abandoned or claimed by others, their fortress was once in a dilapidated state, picked clean by looters and reduced to a haven for squatters. However, recently remnants of the clan from the Sarghress-based Mae'yukir pushed the Kyorl'solenurn out of their home, under Mikilu'ligr's direction & Sker'ligr's and Minka's influence. Following the conclusion of The District War, the Dutan'vir have reclaimed their fortress, thanks in part to lost members who gathered together, & the Kyorl officially ending their conflict under the newest Holy Mother.
