Extra Arc - Vaelia's Past
Chapter 14 features an extra story arc in which Vaelia tells Ariel about her life before becoming a slave. She describes her home on the Emberi Isles, where she was scorned for being a woman who wished to fight. She was beaten and exiled by her own people, and with revenge burning in her heart she directed a passing fae slaver to her village. She came to her senses far too late, and by then her home was destroyed and her people were in chains. When she tried to intervene, she was taken prisoner as well.
She was then sold to the Black Dragon Tavern, where she was found and purchased by Ariel. Her regret still weighs heavy on her conscience, and so she stands by Ariel to balance her bad karma.
