Kuso is a mercenary in the Vel'Vloz'ress forces, and so is consigned to the lower stratrum not only of his army, but also his clan and very much all of Chel'el'Sussuloth. He's pointedly aware of the demeaning nature of this position, and the implication is that, as is typical of Vel'Vloz'ress sell-swords, his affiliation with the clan comes more from the lack of other opportunities for work than any real loyalty. This is further demonstrated by the fact that he isn't tainted despite being in service to a nether cult.
Kuso's character appears to be one of vulgar petulance - he has a short temper (when Kiel'ndia Vel'Vloz'ress sneers a smutty remark regarding his sexual preferences, he tries to draw his sword despite the fact that she's a noble), frequently enunciates his speech with expletives, and will reel off his woes and resentments to anyone around him, irrespective of whether or not they appreciate them (he even openly criticises the clan to Baliir Vel'Vloz'ress, despite the fact that Baliir is a genuine devotee of its leadership).
The aforementioned Baliir is accompanied by Kuso to form a reconnaisance patrol in Sene'kha Vel'Vloz'ress's mission to track down the daemonic 'Shard', Discordia. He later rejoins the main warband, following Baliir's orders to warn their leader of the presence of the Val'Kyorl'solenurn when the two encounter the Templar Ron'nae - it seems to be the case that while Kuso may not be inclined to risk life and limb for the sake of the Vel'Vloz'ress cause, their pay's an adequate enough substitute.
"You have no idea what a shitty Sharess-forsaken job this is! I'm working for a bunch of crazy fucked-up lunatics in a daemonic fortress!"
-Kuso's 'loquacious' assessment of his prospects.
